First Post of 2010
Happy 2010!
What a year it’s been! Joy, disappointment, struggle, triumph …each have paid their visit, some staying longer than others, and some more welcome than the rest. Yet all have shaped me for the better. And for that, I consider 2009 blessed.
I’m not one for making New Year’s resolutions, but this year, I have two. One: Exercise regularly and eat healthy (to prepare myself for the rigors of Med School :). Two: Turn whatever experiences I may encounter, both good and bad, into opportunities of service. Vague and general, yes. Idealistic, perhaps. But worth the effort, no? :)
Resolution Two (or rather life-long goal) was inspired by a story I recently heard of a hospice volunteer, who helped ease the suffering of terminally ill cancer patients while also battling cancer personally. I lacked the details, but even from that information alone, I was so moved.
The act of turning, in one’s suffering, to the suffering of others, serving instead of despairing … is that not true victory?
“You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” Psalm 18:28.
2010 - may it be a year of victory (for you and for me :) !
